Yes, sadly, none of our heroes are perfect. In fact, many of them have glaring imperfections.
One can’t possibly know without the admission, but given the ubiquity, the pervasiveness of rape-culture, one might easily suspect that sexual trauma, early in life, is at the root of many man-haters intractable rage.
We know that traumatic experiences are often denied, repressed, but still, subconsciously, brewing fear, and the resulting hatred. Often, we don’t know where the undeniable feelings are coming from. We deny that we are even afraid, at all, meanwhile expressing anger, anger being always a reaction to fear, with no exception.
Just the other day, a person wrote a response to me that was a screed, railing against transwomen’s right to exist.
I wrote a response,(I know 🙄), pointing out the anger and that the obvious cause of the anger must be fear.
Another response to my response,(🙄), asked me how I could possibly see any fear in it, or even anger.
I then did what I should have, at the beginning…I moved on, knowing that my efforts were, and would continue to be, useless.
Engaging with people so firmly in the grip of deeply submerged, completely denied, fear, is pointless, unless and until the subject wishes to explore their anger in a bid for peace of mind.
I really enjoy your thoughtful responses. Thank you Rev. Sheri Heller!
