What a wonderful mother ❤️.
My mother was wonderful too, but I was born in 1958…
My Mom tried to help and support me in every way possible, but within a society that would brook no deviation from the gender binary.
When I did, finally, transition at the age of 35, she offered the odd bit of advice in my self-makeover. This was often very old fashioned, pre-war, advice, but it warmed my heart.
The only thing that could possibly be considered negative that she ever said was actually very sweet and showed her absolute unconditional love for me…
Keep in mind that she was born in 1924, in rural North Carolina…
Once, she looked at me, with love in her eyes, and said, “Honey? Do you think you could just be a gay man? I’m so afraid that someone will hurt you.”
I said, with the same love in my heart, “No Mama. I tried that. It won’t do at all.”
We both got a little misty, I said, “I love you Mama.”
She said, “You know that I love you too”.
I nodded my head.
We shared a long hug.
She never mentioned it again.
She passed away on March 7th, 2015, at the age of 91.
No one ever had a better mother, and I can see that your daughter has one that is her equal.
