Call me a simpleton, or a reductionist, if you like, but long ago I “boiled it down” to what seems obvious to me, ie;

The major religions, in particular,(but not exclusively), all of the ones originating from the “god of Abraham”, were a natural progression of powerful men codifying, institutionalizing, and policing the Patriarchal Dominance Hierarchy and all of it’s mandates.

This was done using fear and shame, and still is, to this day. I guess, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” is the attitude. We do, however, need to show everyone that it is anachronistic…
