Well done Rosie. Thank you.
I’ve been following Ani Pema Chodron, Venerable Thubten Chodron, and, of course, Thich Nhat Hanh, all on YouTube.
I wouldn’t describe mindfulness meditation for the beginner exactly the way that you did, but it’s one way to look at it.
We must consider other understandings as well…in understanding your perception, I will have another piece of the picture, and can then better meditate myself, as well as lead meditations in a better way.
When beginning to reach a meditative state, I sometimes think of the 'monkey-mind' chatter as the surface of a wind blown lake. As I bring my consciousness from the past and future, home to my body, my breathing…I sink below the surface where it’s calm. From there I can feel the currents, and observe how the currents and the waves on the surface interact.
The waves on the surface are reactions to wind,(outside influences on me).
Safe at home, in my body, I can meditate on the conditions and my responses to them.
Thich Nhat Hanh, a Zen Master, passed away recently. I’m watching his Dharma talks exclusively these days, and of course, downloading them to my library. I expect that he’s a Bodisatva now.
I think that you’re making great progress and I’m proud of you.
Thanks again ❣️

PS: For the absolute first time beginners I think that Gelong Thubten is a very good place to start. He can also be found on youtube….
Peace Love Kindness Respect the more you give the more you get 😍 start with yourself 😉 because you deserve it ❤️🙏🏼 (you really do. I promise.)
