Spot on, Wyatt.
We see a lot of that ilk in AA. We see them come, we see them go. We see them die….drunk, miserable, and alone.
Humans are social animals. We evolved/were created that way. Without our dependence on each other, our species would not have survived.
As a writer on this platform once entitled his essay, “The opposite of addiction is connection”.
As many people are aware, the first step in recovery is an unreserved admission, a total capitulation to the fact that we are completely defeated, powerless over alcohol/drug of choice.
The second step, the acknowledgement, the fully realized belief that only reliance on a higher power,(be that God, the group, the universe as an entity, etc.), will give us any chance of becoming a whole and useful human being.
Petersonian/nietzschean philosophy is a recipe for abject misery and death. Especially for alcoholic/addicts.
Thanks again 😊
