Spot on, Mark. One of my older sisters worshipped our very “masculine” father. She became a heartless bully and taught me, unintentionally, to despise bullies. I learned the lesson well, and stand up to bullies, face them down, it’s the only “language” they understand. I use connection and empathy with everyone, even bullies…until they first begin to try to assert dominance over me. I simply won’t have it. I smile sweetly, and calmly and politely defy them. The surprising result? They become fearful of me. Though I never threaten them in any way, they are, nevertheless, intimidated by someone whom they cannot intimidate. They appear to be very frustrated, but simply don’t know what to do when intimidation tactics don’t work.

I will admit that I do enjoy their discomfiture, my own feeling of power, dominance.

Apparently, the cycle continues…
