Rapists gonna rape. I'm quite sure that the young man in question is not a truly gender dysphoric person. If he were, that simply would not have happened.
Furthermore, I have nothing but your word for it. It would have been more convincing if you had provided links to the news articles. Since you didn't, I must assume that those links would have explained why the boys claim of being transgender was simply the opportunistic lie of a rapist.
I, personally, think that a kid claiming to be trans should be required by the school to present a statement from each of their transition related doctors, MD and Psychologist.

A truly transgender kid would never have done anything like that. It's just not in their nature.
I transitioned, MTF, in 1993/4. I had a liscensed board certified clinical psychologist and a VA endocrinologist. I was required to undergo and complete all of the WPATH standards.
I have been talked over by men, ignored as insignificant by men, required to squeeze between a man and the wall to get to a door, catcalled, sexually harassed, groped and raped, both by intimidation and by physical force.
So, you see, I know what the girl in your story felt/feels like.
The, alleged, rapist is extremely unlikely to be truly transgender.
In short, I am convinced that the whole story is just an exaggerated attempt to attack transwomen in general, if not an outright lie intended for the same purpose.
I don't believe you, at least not in the way you have described it.
