My older sisters began teaching me to read and write at the age of three.

When I was 14, I did the Stanford-Benet IQ test. I scored 147.

Suddenly I was in the “accelerated class”, for “gifted” children.

There were two boys, from “upper crust” families, who sat on either side of me in chemistry class. When Glen, the teacher, gave us a written test, the two boys simply waited while I filled out the answers. They then simply reached over and slid my paper over and copied it, Grey first, then Edgar.

Glen’s desk was pushed right up to our lab table. He never said a word.

This was the class of 1976, in a small town in NC…. there were nothing but upper class white kids in the ap class.

Thank you for bringing attention to the phenomenon.

Bye y'all. it's been real. I have a new Chromebook, but I prefer to write these little "aside" pieces on my phone, curled up in my comfy chair. always love; w
