I was raised without religion, other than the knowledge gained from observation of the rest of society.
My father, a CID army officer, schooled me in rational, evidence based reason, from an early age.
I’ve always agreed with the prominent atheists that I’ve read, but not being a “blasphemous apostate”, I can’t work up any passion for it.
I can’t be truly angry at religion. I’ve only observed it, dispassionately.
As an alcoholic I needed some kind of spiritual growth to get and remain sober. I found it in Tibetan Buddhism.
Though I don’t believe that the Buddha and the Bodisatvas are literally looking down on me, I find it a useful image.
Being at peace, with myself, and the world, while being of benifit to other living beings, is a philosophy that has it’s own rewards and suits me quite well.
Good journey my friend.
