I quite agree. Anything that I may use as a “quick-fix" for a mood that is unpleasant is potentially very dangerous.
I have found that practicing the Dharma, as per Tibetan Buddhism,(without the religiosity), on a daily basis, cultivates peace of mind and general happiness in a lasting and almost instinctive manner.
There is then no need for any chemical crutches.
I can be happy, joyous and free, and clean of what are, ultimately, self-administered poisons.
