I’m proud of you, young lady! So proud that I could burst!

I usually defuse the situation with humour.

“I don’t drink.”

“Why not?”

“I’m allergic”.

“Allergic”?

“I break out.”

“A rash?”

“No. Handcuffs.”

My last drink was 21Sep2018, after 45 years of drinking.

No one is entitled to an explanation.

“No, thank you. Because? Because, no thanks”,(big smile). “Have you read that article about the price of eggs in China?” “How are your family?” “What’s good, on the menu here?”

It’s not important. It’s not up for consideration. “I simply don’t want any.”(smile)🌝 “I’m not drinking today.” 🌝

They may have some deep guilt about their own drinking, wanting a “partner in crime”. My grandmother used to say, “Misery loves company.”
