Asked of me on Quora, 23mar,2022

“What is involved in transgender medical healthcare and can it be life saving?”

It may only involve the long term help of a liscensed, board certified, clinical psychologist who has experience with the issue at hand.

If the psychologist agrees, it may move on to hormone therapy.

At a later time, it may involve top surgery, possibly moving on to bottom surgery.

There are, in my opinion, a set of standards that should always be followed. Those are the WPATH standards. They've been around for many years, but more and more often these days, they are not being used.

There's no way to accurately estimate the number of people who have taken their own lives because they were secretly suffering from gender dysphoria.

Of the living transgender people, 41% report having had one or more suicide attempts.

“Life saving”? Very, very definitely.
