Asked of me on Quora, 14mar2022

“How can a child choose a gender when only four years old?”

They don't “choose a gender”, like choosing which piece of candy to pick up from a store shelf.

Children see the people around them behaving, relating to others, and moving through life. They unconsciously align with the pattern that feels natural to them.

Children don't have the capacity to mentally “back off" and look at it objectively, then make a rational decision. They simply “go with the flow”.

Children are always “in the zone”, that feeling when everything is flowing naturally, without conscious direction.

Children don't “choose” a gender. They simply *are* a gender.
